The writer Helga Schneider was born on the 17 November 1937 in Steinberg, Kreis Goldberg (at one time Third Reich, now Poland). She spent her infancy in Berlin, her adoloscence and youth in Austria, her second youth and maturity in Italy. Let Me Go is Helga’s first book with Walker & Company. Helga Schneider and the famous film director Lina Wertmuller have extracted a theatrical piece from the text of Let Me Go, leaving the same title, which, along with the actors Milena Vukotic (in the role of Helga) and Roberto Herlitzka (in that of Helga’s mother), two prestigious theatrical actors under the direction of Lina Wertmuller, enjoyed extraordinary success at the Eliseo theatre in Rome.
